Congratulations to our amazing riders who attended the West Mercia Regionals. Only a small proportion of our riders want to compete and we came home with lots of rosettes, with two of our riders qualifying for the National Championships at Hartbury, the highest scoring dressage test in Herefordshire and the overall winner of the 3D class in the art competition. Plus masses of fun! For all the results from the qualifiers, visit the RDA West Mercia website. Well done everyone and a big thankyou to everyone who came to help make it a perfect day! Great new venue too. [envira-gallery id="686"]

Angela Hale, a yard assistant at Hereford RDA, is running the Cardiff Half for HRDA on the 26th March! Angie says: "Since I started working at the therapeutic centre I have been inspired by the stories of achievement and seen the smiles on the faces of the amazing people who ride our lovely horses and ponies. So many people come together to make it a success and I want to do my bit by running the Half Marathon in Cardiff. This idea was formed late last year and I've had little time to prepare but there's nothing like throwing yourself in the deep end! I'd like to say a big thank you to those who have encouraged me on this journey- for those who know me I'm not the the…
The Courtyard’s 2015 Christmas Appeal partnering with HRDA has raised a total of £5,848.90 during the Courtyard’s most successful pantomime ever, Beauty and the Beast. Funds supported both charities - The Courtyard, and partner, Herefordshire Riding for the Disabled (RDA). The money raised has enabled us to invest in a much needed, customised saddle for Jelly, which can be specially adapted for our disabled riders. [envira-gallery id="664"] ‘Working with The Courtyard has been even better than expected. It has made a huge difference to RDA through raising awareness of the equine therapeutic activities we provide to the community, as well as much needed funds to keep our Holme Lacey centre running. Funds raised from the Appeal have allowed the purchase of a bespoke saddle for some of our severely physically disabled riders, enabling…

On Monday 18 May 2015, Councillor Charles Nicholls became Hereford’s 634th Mayor. In a traditional ceremony Councillor Chris Chappell proposed Councillor Nicholls, saying he had found him to be a hard working and committed Councillor, working to deliver what was the best for the City. After being elected by a member to the position of Mayor, Councillor Nicholls said “As a child with no idea of his future I could not have imagined I would one day receive this great honour of being made Mayor. Thank you”. Councillor Nicholls named his charities for this year’s Mayor’s appeal as Alzheimer’s Society which supports people living with dementia and the Riding for the Disabled which provides therapy, achievement and enjoyment to people with a variety of mental and physical disabilities. We started the first week of the New Year with all our volunteers being introduced to the new members of our herd and undergoing some "refresher" training. On this session, Jelly was the patient "guinea pig" whilst the correct way to assist the Instructor to mount was demonstrated. We also used this opportunity to help Tintin in his training to overcome his apprehension of crowds - he looks pretty chilled out to us! We will be holding our next volunteer training session Wednesday 19th February 9.30 to 12pm. The topic will be Deaf Awareness. Please contact the office to book your place.
On Tuesday 17th December our Centre was filled with festive cheer and some wonderful singing as members of the Fire Choir performed some classic Christmas carols for our riders, volunteers and invited guests. Wizard Wonky, as well as face painting (can you spot Fenella?) kept our younger guests entertained, whilst Steady Eddie gave some “taster" rides. The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Phil Edwards lit our Christmas Candle and had some fun on Steady Eddie. Father Christmas visited us as well and was very pleased with the sparkly grotto we had prepared for him! It was a lovely evening, full of goodwill and Christmas spirit, with some yummy bacon baps, delicious cakes and warming mulled wine provided to help keep us warm! A massive thank you to everyone who donated their time and helped on the night – as always we are extremely grateful.
