It’s an exciting time for Herefordshire RDA as we are currently building a brand new equine therapy centre near Ross on Wye, Herefordshire.
Our current home in Holme Lacy is too small for our needs and also doesn’t give us the financial security we need to have a long term future. Therefore around 5 years ago we set about trying find a new home for our operations. In 2021 we were successful in identifying a 40 acre site near Ross on Wye, Herefordshire and purchased this amazing location later ,that year. Planning permission was gained in 2023 and having gained the necessary amount of funding , work started on site in summer 2024.
This £2m project is going to make a massive difference to all our participants and we look forward to sharing all of the details of the project on this page.
Where is the new centre:
The new centre is found at Symonds Trewern Farm, near Llangrove, Herefordshire. It is easily accessible from the A40 dual carraigeway near Whitchurch, Ross on Wye.
What facilities will there be:
The new centre will have:
- A 65m x 30m indoor arena
- A hydraulic mounting platform and a hoist to enable those with mobility difficulties to mount horses with ease
- A heated viewing area
- Great toilet facilities including a Changing Places toilet
- A large room to house our mechanical house with a hoist
- 20 stables to house our lovely horses and poinies
- 40 acres of land for exploring on horseback or on foot
- Lots of car parking
We will move all of horses and ponies to the new centre – no one will be left behind. All of our coaches and staff will also be moving too!
When will the new Centre be open?
You can see the current build status below. We are currently in the process of building the new site and hope to be moving in the summer of 2025. Check back here for more updates.
How has this project been funded?
We have been very lucky to secure funding from a number of trusts, foundations and grant bodies in order to progress this project. The total project will cost around £2m and we still need around £100,000 to finish the inside of the building including purchasing the new stables.
