We can’t say thank you enough! All of us at Herefordshire Riding for the Disabled would like to thank each and everyone of you who attended and made donations on Saturday 20th August 2022. HRDA Centre manager Claire Chandler and RDA coach said: Our 30th celebration Tea Party was a great success, over 80 people attended; including the Mayor and High Sherriff of Hereford, which gained a lot of press and we raised over £450.00 on the day from the raffle, mechanical horse rides and tea/cake stall.Claire Chandler The money raised from the event will directly help HRDA to continue providing therapeutic riding sessions for disabled riders from all over the county of Hereford. Back in July we were thrilled to submit some of our riders to the virtual regional qualifiers at the National RDA Championships. Everyone achieved strong results, gaining rosettes and certificates to mark the occasion. Daniel Bailey was our NC qualifier, (going over the 63% threshold), and achieving great feedback from the Judge with a score of 67% on an unled walk and trot. Very well done to Daniel and to our fabulous pony, Lady!

We're pleased to announce with lockdown restrictions easing, we are reopening the Herefordshire RDA centre on Monday 12th April 2021, this is in line with the governments’ second phase of the easement plan.At Christmas all the RDA horses and ponies went for a two-week staycation at a nearby farm and were well looked after by one of our amazing volunteers and their family. As the end of the year approached everyone was looking forward to their Christmas festivities and the two-week break, after a very difficult 2020!  The centre closed its doors on Friday 18th December after the final lesson was completed.On Monday 4th January the RDA staff and horses returned to the centre. It was full swing ahead to get everything set up and ready to welcome our riders…

We are in urgent of need of more volunteers to enable us to run riding therapy sessions at our base at Holme Lacy College. At present, we have new clients on our waiting list and can't offer them riding therapy due to not having enough volunteers. Volunteering with us involves either helping in a riding session, leading a pony or walking beside a rider, or helping on our stable yard with practical tasks. There is no requirement for any experience of horses or working with disabled clients before - as full training is given. We are looking for people able to help for 1 hour a week (or more if you can ) on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday between 9.30am and 5.30pm. Our volunteers find helping at the…

Herefordshire RDA are excited to announce that they are on the hunt for new premises to house their ponies and horses that give disabled adults and children riding therapy every week. “We have outgrown our current premises at Holme Lacy College and are looking to upgrade the facilities we offer our clients.” says David Harding, Herefordshire RDA chair of trustees.   “We want to say close to Hereford for our clients but this is a wonderful opportunity to be able to provide top class equestrian therapy for Herefordshire residents”. Two of the horse's were Jackie North's horse Cookie, who was doing his first RDA competition, and Steph Boyce's pony Daisy, who was doing its first competition. [caption id="attachment_1017" align="alignleft" width="225"] Jackie North riding Cookie.[/caption] Cookie had a good start to his competing career, but sadly Daisy went lame. Daisy is now fine after a rest, and Steph was allowed to compete on one of our horses instead, which was great. On Monday 18 May 2015,  Councillor Charles Nicholls became Hereford’s 634th Mayor. In a traditional ceremony Councillor Chris Chappell proposed Councillor Nicholls, saying he had found him to be a hard working and committed Councillor, working to deliver what was the best for the City. After being elected by a member to the position of Mayor, Councillor Nicholls said “As a child with no idea of his future I could not have imagined I would one day receive this great honour of being made Mayor. Thank you”. Councillor Nicholls named his charities for this year’s Mayor’s appeal as Alzheimer’s Society which supports people living with dementia and the Riding for the Disabled which provides therapy, achievement and enjoyment to people with a variety of mental and physical disabilities. On Tuesday 17th December our Centre was filled with festive cheer and some wonderful singing as members of the Fire Choir performed some classic Christmas carols for our riders, volunteers and invited guests.  Wizard Wonky, as well as face painting (can you spot Fenella?) kept our younger guests entertained, whilst Steady Eddie gave some “taster" rides. The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Hereford, Councillor Phil Edwards lit our Christmas Candle and had some fun on Steady Eddie.  Father Christmas visited us as well and was very pleased with the sparkly grotto we had prepared for him! It was a lovely evening, full of goodwill and Christmas spirit, with some yummy bacon baps, delicious cakes and warming mulled wine provided to help keep us warm!  A massive thank you to everyone who donated their time and helped on the night – as always we are extremely grateful.
